ANIMAL FIRST AID COURSES

Keeping calm in an emergency and knowledge of first aid can help save lives!

 

The Course

The aim of our Animal First Aid Course is to provide animal lovers' with the necessary information, skills and confidence required to stabilize an injured animal until veterinary help can be reached.

Emphasis is placed on the prevention of illness and injury, the importance of early veterinary care and the appropriate restraining of an injured animal.

During the course you will be able to practice most of the skills on live animals.

Your pets are welcome on the course providing they are healthy, fully vaccinated and get on well with people and other pets! (one pet per person please).

Bring a camera, taking a photo of your pet all bandaged up is definitely one for the album! Your pet will even get his own certificate.

The course is open to anyone, even if you don't have a pet. Useful skills are never wasted!

Although the course focuses on cats and dogs, the skills you learn will also be applicable to other similar sized animals.

Course content includes:

  • Prevention of illness and injury

  • Restraint and transportation

  • Bleeding and wounds

  • Shock

  • Bone and joint injuries

  • Ear and eye injuries

  • Poisoning

  • Medical conditions

  • Injuries from heat and cold

  • Administration of medication

  • Airway obstruction

  • CPR

  • and so much more...

Availability
Places are limited to 10 students per course date. This will allow the instructor to provide each of you with ample time and instruction so that you will feel comfortable learning your new skills.

Course times
9am to 5pm. If you are bringing a pet then please arrive at least 15 minutes early so that the pet has time to settle in before class starts.

Course fee
Fees very depending on number of students, location and length of course. Please contact Samantha for details. (All fees include Course Manual and a Certificate)

Tea and coffee will be provided but students must bring their own lunch. Don't forget to bring a water bowl for your pet, some treats and his / her bed. No squeaky toys please!

Course location
Oswestry, North Shropshire. Alternative venues also available. The course venue has ample parking facilities and large grassy areas for the pets to exercise and have toilet breaks.
